Ruby ovals and petite diamond accents are presented in 10 karat yellow gold in these pretty floral stud earrings. Each earring holds a trio of prong-set rubies with a rich purplish-red color. Genuine diamond accents grace the leaf shapes in between. The 10mm studs are completed with posts and friction backings of 10 karat yellow gold.

Customer Rating: Summary: Same color as picture. Comment: I received this set this morning and gave them to my wife this evening.
When I made the order I thought that the picture looked more like Amethyst stones rather than Ruby, but just thought the color was off a bit. Now that I've received them, they do look like Amethyst, and when my wife saw them she exclaimed "Oh, what pretty Amethyst ear rings."
I told her that I had paid for Ruby and Diamond ear rings so I could return them, but she loves them and wouldn't hear of it. So, she is keeping them. The Diamonds are so tiny that they are hardly visible.
But since I paid for much more than Amethyst looking stones, and tiny Diamond chips, I'm disappointed that I spent as much as I did.
I'm no expert, but to me, Rubies are supposed to be red, not dark Lavender.
Update, September 2.....
I took these ear rings in to a Jeweler to get an expert opinion, and here are the results. The Ruby ear rings I received are indeed Sapphire, and not Amethyst, as my wife and I thought. Real red Rubies are more expensive than the lighter "pink" hued Sapphire.
Ruby is actually an instance of the mineral Corundum. In fact the only difference between a Sapphire and a Ruby is the color. A Corundum of any color other than red is a Sapphire.
Rubies with real red color are more valuable than those with purple hues which are generally classified as Sapphire.
So, I paid for Ruby and received Sapphire, but my wife likes them, so what can I do?
