Summary: An adequate capturing experience
Comment: It does a pretty good job of getting old analog tape recordings into your computer to manipulate. Since it is usb and not card based it also has the advantage of being an easily portable device that you can use on whatever computer is convenient.
Getting the best results can depend on what settings you use, with a trade off over the resulting file size. The eccentricities of selecting a compression format and the settings for each format is a high art, with lots of room for debate. You do have choices to explore with this or any capture product.
One advantage of this commonly available product is that there are people who have put up helpful tip videos for the settings of easycap that can be seen on a popular aggregating site. Do a search and you might be able to find the assistance you need.
I was able to get a good transfer of a 20 year old low res, mono videotaping of a get-together of friends, and compress it enough for emailing. So, I'm pleased. It did what I wanted it to do at a low price.

Summary: Wonderful product! Here's how to get it to work:
Comment: First off, let me tell you - This is an amazing deal. I have 3 computers, and while this doesn't work with two of them (It gets a scratchy audio noise, I think it's a problem with NVidia chipsets), it works with the third one. The problem most people are having is that it doesn't "display video correctly". After installing it, it should be recognized as a Syntek STK1160. You'll need to change the video from PAL to NTSC (If you live in America or Japan). Go to Control Panel -> Scanners and Cameras -> and right click on "Syntek STK1160" and select "Video Decoder Property". Change it from "PAL_B" (Or whatever it is) to "NTSC_M" (for America) and "NTSC_M_J" for Japan. You'll know the right one when it says "Signal Detected: 1". Enjoy ^_^
It doesn't work right with VirtualDub, but you can use AMCap (Google it) to record your video, and VirtualDub to edit and produce it.

Summary: doesn't work with analog video players
Comment: This product doesn't seem to work with analog video players. I haven't tried it through a digital TV but the software kept crashing my computer.

Comment: I don't know if this piece of junk works or not. I can't figure out how to plug the female ends of the cable to the female jacks on the VHS. Barely understandable instructions do not address that, but in many places extoll the many wonders of this product. I contacted the seller, but from other reviews I expect no reply, refund or replacement. Buyer beware, this outfit sells trash.

Summary: Useable for Some Apps
Comment: I found that the sound was intermittent, noisy, skipped from mono left side to mono right side and was out of sync with the video. Reconnected the audio through my sound card and it was good and in sync. The video is poorer quality than straight from the VHS. The software is Ulead, not the newest full up version, but probably worth the cost of the unit. The user manual is in .pdf on the distribution disc which also includes the drivers. I found capture to take real time plus setup. Recording to DVD took about twice real time after figuring out how to do it.
