Summary: Unacceptab;e glitches
Comment: Save your money if you want to play a season or play a franchise mode, which lets you control team over many seasons. The game will perodically freeze on you. 2k9 has no plans to fix this according to an adminstrator on their forum board. Very disappointing!

Summary: Nice to see NHL on the wii
Comment: I played this game for about seven straight hours after I got it for Christmas.
First off the problems:
Announcers occasionlly will say the wrong players name. Example Ryan Miller is in net and they say Price made the save.
Menus are difficult to navigate and 2k9 doesn't bother to provide you with an manual. I'm still not sure how I can call players up from minors.
No instruction on faceoffs. I find if a hold A and B and throw my arms down at the right time I can win faceoffs.
What I like:
The game has a good feel to it. The graphics aren't wonderful for the Wii, but they are not terrible.
I love being able to swing my arm to take shots. (But after seven hours yesterday my arm is little sore)
The passing can be a little akward as one reviewer stated, but with practice works pretty well. My only wish is if you point the control at a skater that it wouldn't drop pass.
The puck movement looks great when you make moves by pressing the arrow buttons or shaking the nunchuck remote.
Overall you don't have any other opition for hockey on Wii so you have no choice but 2k9. The game has some problems, but overall the game play is fun. I love the fights!!!

Summary: Free-flowing Gameplay Overshadows Minor Flaws
Comment: As the first NHL hockey game for the Wii, I think NHL 2K9 stacks up pretty well. The graphics are well-balanced - enough detail for the eyes, but not too much for the Wii to handle. The big thought on my mind after seeing the commercials, however, was how well the Wiimote would simulate a hockey stick. When it comes to shooting, it does a good job - passing and stickhandling are controlled with the buttons (though you don't need to use the button to stickhandle). Skating with the nunchuck's control stick is probably the best and most realistic I've tried - with your forwards you can really carve circles around the defenders to find room for a shot. When you have the puck, you can shake the nunchuck for a 'signature' move that, at least for the Washington Capitals, is pretty accurate (just wait to use it until you are right in front of the defenseman). Another nice aspect is that you can trip/hook by swinging the Wiimote and check by swinging the nunchuck, which make fighting for the puck against the boards feel pretty real. Passing is a little complicated if it's anything more than just to the next man - the box claims you can set up string passes, but I haven't figured this out. I also have not figured out how to win faceoffs. My only other complaint is the about goalie controls - you can press the '1' button on the Wiimote to switch to the goalie with a goalie-cam view, and you have to point the remote so that the goalie is square with the attacker - it's a little sensitive and probably only useful on breakaways. In general, though, the game is not too complicated, flows well, and feels like a really interactive arcade game. You'll probably fail miserably your first couple games and then get a feel for the controls. Most important, you could play (and win!) an entire game with only pressing the A button (pass) and B button (slapshot). In this way, NHL 2k9 leverages the Wii's intuitive controls to make the game more about just playing rather than memorizing button combinations. I'm interested to see how EA's NHL 09 is for the Wii, but could not wait forever.

Summary: BIRTHDAY GIFT FOR MY 9yr. OLD GRANDSON
Comment: MY 9 YR. OLD GRANDSON WAS THRILLED WITH THIS WII GAME. THAT'S ALL HE WANTED. HE AND HIS FATHER PLAYED AND PLAYED. OF COURSE HIS FATHER LOST.
HE HAD A FEW OF HIS FRIENDS OVER FOR HIS BIRTHDAY PARTY AND THE HOCKEY GAME WAS THE HIT. I GUESS YOU'D SAY IT WAS THE BEST GIFT.
