Summary: Nice 64bit PC for the money
Comment: Gateway DX4200-UB001A is overall good machine for the money. Though I bought over a month ago, but actual usage has been about two weeks now.
PROS:
64bit hardware with the latest revised CPU - AMD Phenom 9550 2.2 GHz; 6BG Ram; 640GB hard drive; generous video card (ATI w/256MB video ram); DVDRW; 1GB NIC; 15-in-1 media card reader, etc.

CONS:
(1) No activity light to indicate when DVD drive is in use.
In my case I installed a 2nd DVD drive. So when I insert discs into both, launch install process from one drive but decided to eject the other drive, there is no way of knowing which one to eject while leaving the other for the installation to continue.

(2) It seems Gateway, Inc. is either ignorantly practices deceptive advertisement or willfully plays baiting tactics.
THE Gateway DX4200-UB001A was listed on Gateway's own website as a 64bit hardware and software [...]. Yet, mine came with a 32bit Vista OS.

Upon receiving delivery of the PC, I noticed the OS discrepancy. They included a 32bit Microsoft Windows Vista Premium instead of 64bit edition as advertised.
I immediately contacted Gateway Support via their website by first creating an account as required. To their credit, I received almost an instant response from a technician. Very impressive I said to myself.
Now what follows over the next three weeks was disappointing. I was pushed around by various support staff all with his or her own list of things to send to prove ownership of the PC. Some as ridiculous as asking me to re-read the DVD label to make sure it says "32bit". One even suggested that it could be 64bit inside even though the label says 32bit; basically requiring me to test-install the DVD. Yet no 64bit was found inside.
In all, I obediently did as directed including faxing over receipts, UPC barcode, pictures of the case showing Serial number, etc.
To make matters worst, after 20+ email exchanges, several pages of scanned/faxed proof of purchase, I was told by Gateway that I must pay $35 in order to received a replacement 64bit Windows Vista OS ReInstallation disc.

At this time I've had it and was not taking no for an answer, I launched a formal complain with the Better Business Bureau. Within 2 days I got a call from a representative of Gateway's parent company Acer, Inc. At this time they were no longer talking of $35 payment rather verifying my address for overnight shipping.
