Customer Rating: Summary: One of the Best Soundtracks I have ever heard Comment: I just can't get over the incredible way the entire soundtrack starts out. The first two note motif of the Joker haunts you throughout the score. It is dark, moody, majestic, and exciting. Although there are spots when the score is at a low subtle level, just when you think "Is it going to move on?" it does. It captures the esscence of the film without watching the film itself. But it feels like the joker will just walk into the room at any moment.
Buy this soundtrack it rivals any soundtrack I have heard and I own about 30 or so...
Customer Rating: Summary: Truly a great, dark and phenomenal score soundtrack. Comment: Christopher Nolan mentions in the liner notes of the CD that part of the reason he had planned "The Dark Knight" was the wonderful music that Zimmer and Howard had put together for Batman Begins (Limited Edition Gift Set) [Blu-ray]. While I am a little surprised at this, at the same time I see why. The music in that movie definitely fit the tone of the movie. And now, with this wonderful soundtrack to the amazing film The Dark Knight [Theatrical Release], Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard have put together a real masterpiece.
The soundtrack opens with the very disturbing and uneasy "Why So Serious?". You feel VERY uncomfortable while listening to it, and it captures who The Joker is very well and easily. At 9 minutes, it is only two notes. Yet with phenomenal execution, orchestration and use of synth, it makes great listening while laying in bed at night. The next track, "I'm Not A Hero", is a little more orchestra-based, As well as "Harvey Two-Face", which becomes REALLY epic towards the end, with the roman-sounding orchestration.
There's also some over-the-top-ness here, as displayed in "And I Thought My Jokes Were Bad" and "Watch The World Burn". But the REAL highlight is the album's final track "A Dark Knight". Running at 16 minutes, it's an epic song, truly captures the spirit of the last 16 minutes. Some of it happens when The Joker is hanging over the ledge by his foot at the end. But most of it happens during the end credits. Try blasting it out on your HUGE stereo. It'll put your next-door neighbor's hip hop or Sarah McLachlan to shame.
So overall, this is an over-the top, epic, and amazing score soundtrack. If you can pick up a copy of it in the store, GO FOR IT. You will NOT be disappointed. The whole time you'll be going "Whoa". I know I did.
Customer Rating: Summary: Awe Inspiring Comment: One of the best scores ever written, anything comming from Hans Zimmerman is almost always superb. Anything he does is always moody and you can almost picture the action in your mind as the music takes you through it. Once again............. the best.
Customer Rating: Summary: Dark, Haunting, Stunning... Comment: I had mixed views on the soundtrack to Batman begins. Although there were some good tracks, so much of it felt boring and dreary, and not a particularly entertaining listen.
So why is that a similar style is used in this soundtrack but instead it appeals to me, draws me in right from the very beginning and makes it's way up the list of my favourite soundtracks?
I feel it is some what down to a much better film (in my opinion), but the style of music is executed so much better here than in the first film. The first score tried too hard to be dark, this however has dark written all over it and it works. Oh yes, it works.
Right from the start this soundtrack is a winner. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard collaborate again, mixing electronic beats to grand, sweeping orchestras, and there are also touches of emotional melodies, particularly in track 3 - 'Harvey Two Face', which tells the tale, in music, of the character's downfall.
One of my favourite 'techniques' that the film made use of was with the Joker's 'theme'. When the joker was planning something, the music and often the sound effects cut out and we were just left with a rising electronic sound that is the very defenition of a tension builder. It's great to see this in the soundtrack, in fact, it's the very first thing you hear in track 1.
This score builds on the themes of the original to great effect. Track 08 - 'Like a Dog Chasing Cars' features the emotional melody from the first score but this time in a much darker, faster paced tune that worked wonders both in the film and on this score.
There are also links to other great soundtracks, one I noticed in particular was the Metal Gear Solid 3 game soundtrack by Harry Gregson-Williams.
I didn't give it the full 5 stars because it's not perfect. One of the minor gripes I have is that the longer tracks, track 1 and 14, start off interesting, but then start to drag on a bit. I don't mean this as in the music is bad, not at all, but I felt if they were going to make long tracks as 'suites', they should have made it interesting all the way through. But, it sets the mood perfectly in this way which is one of the main success factors of this score.
This will definately sit among my favourite CDs in my collection. A triumph by the two composers.
Customer Rating: Summary: Easily, One Of The Best Movie Soundtracks Of All Time Comment: This has to be one of the best movie soundtrack I have ever heard. I'm already a good fan of Mr. Zimmer's work. The soundtrack moves very quickly giving you a mix of excitement and relaxation, taking you on an incredible journey. All tracks are unique and each have a different sound. You will wish that some tracks were longer, but the last track 'The Dark Night' really makes up for it at 16:50 (which is my favorite track anyway).
