After filling a globe hold a finger over the end to seal it. Turn the globe over and release it as you set it in the stake. Plants roots will grow around the stake and use water more efficiently. The water level will be visible through the glass so you will know when to water.

My wife no longer kills our plants by over watering and we can go away on vacation without worrying about having someone come in to water them. They look good with the plants too. This product is so much better than aqua globes. The aqua globe was difficult to fill. These are simple to fill, no mess. The aqua globe didn't even water the plant, the stem got clogged with dirt and the water didn't seep through the dirt at all. The Plant Nannies work great, one refill lasts about 7-10 days, and the plants stay alive! I had bought some of the "as seen on TV" one, but these are MUCH better. You can easily see when the water is gone in the globe and you can easily add more without punching a new hole in the ground.
