Customer Rating: Summary: garmin gps Comment: This product is great the only issue I have is that some of the street names it calls out are wrong. It is correct about 99 % of the time I thnk the garmin program needs to be updated. In one case It said to turn left on eagle road. Well where eagle road used to be there is a lake that has been there twenty years.?? Other than a few issues like that it is really a good product. The bluetooth works wonderful as well as the fm transmitter.
Customer Rating: Summary: Couldn't have made a better choice! Comment: Even though it is refurbished and some people shy away. But mine looks and acts like new with only half the cost. This is a discontinued item but like I said the cost is great. When I was looking it's only a few dollars more then the lower model.
The only con is that when using the blue tooth the people on the other line can hear themselves speak. I sound find and they sound fine on my end but they get a little weirded out when they can hear themselves. Otherwise I can't complain about a single other feature.
Customer Rating: Summary: Like it except for the powering/charging situation. Comment: The Nuvi 680 performs its guidance job just as I would expect it to.
The thing I don't like about it is that you can't power it from a car usb charger. You can charge it from that source, but you can't use it while it is charging. You can do it with the AC source if you turn it on and plug in the usb connector before you plug the power supply into AC. This doesn't seem to work with a DC cigarette usb source.
If I travel somewhere (fly/rental car) I have to take the mount and MSN/power supply with me. I wish the power cable would plug directly into the back of the unit without the mount.
I bought the unit as refurbed product and haven't found any way to tell that it had ever been opened or used before.
Overall I am pleased with it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Bells and Whistles Comment: This is a slightly outdated and overpriced model with lots of bells and whistles...it has MP3, bluetooth, FM Transmitter, etc.... it is slow to access satelites, but quite easy to use beyond that. surprised that they didnt made this voice activated...that would really make use much easier, and should be simple technology at this point.
You can change the voices from male to female and to various accents...all fun, but a lot of fluff in the end, unless you are rehearsing to sound Australian or English. You can check your altitude...also nice, but probably almost never used.
Would suggest a much cheaper model with big screen and voice...thats really all you need.
Customer Rating: Summary: value for money Comment: I am new to GPS and did extensive research before committing myself for this luxury product. I narrowed down to Garmin GPS because of its good reputation and I also took a chance for this factory refurbish unit because the reviews show it's good as new and comes with the latest map 2009 from Amazon. I think I got a steal at $199.99. The bluetooth is working well even it is not compatible with my Samsung phone. Also the initial pairing with my phone was a PAIN and it took me two days to get that in synch. After that, however, everytime I switched on the Nuvi it would automatically link up with my phone and I had been getting calls while driving knowing I can concentrate on the road. It is very clear from both end talking handsfree. My passengers are well impressed with that, too bad I can't show them my phone book in the Nuvi or to use text messaging (while I am not driving of course) I also like the redirecting function as it's under 3 seconds in most places in the Bay Area, California. One little complain that didn't get the 5th star is the acquiring satilette could be LOOOONNNGGG. It's more like hit and miss. It took more than 3 minutes when I were in san francisco getting on to Bay Bridge. I know where I were going but I were surprise it took that long to get a signal. Normally it's fast, I plugged in the unit, switch on my car, then it started calculating the route. But once the signal is acquired it's fast to calculating the route. So, I give a 4 star. Even this is a discontinued product I think I got a good bargain and now I am more confident in driving to places I've never been to knowing Nuvi 680 will navigate me out of all the roadblocks. MSN direct works very well in my area. It's an added bonus because I got one year free service of this :) Thumbs up!!
