Editorial Reviews:

The premier household name in melodic hard rock returns with a vengeance! Whitesnake is back with "Good To Be Bad", their 10th studio album and first in over a decade. This brand new album features a slew of instant-classic Whitesnake songs that are destined to stand side by side with such favorites as "Here I Go Again", "Still Of The Night" and "Fool For Your Love." Led by world-renown vocalist extraordinaire David Coverdale, "Good To Be Bad" is truly classic Whitensake, displaying that rare combination of high class and kick ass that has made them what they are today... the absolute best!

Summary: FINALLY!
Comment: All I can say is WOW! This album is simply the best Whitesnake has made since their bluesy stuff in the 70's and early 80's! Yes, even better than the 87' album (songs are just as catchy, and yet the songwriting, while still containing the sex appeal, simply sound like a band that is not rehashing the same ol stuff. the formula is the same, but the ingredients are fresher.). Big thick guitar tones, great vocals, nasty yet melodic solos, and every tune is catchy as hell!
When I first put the cd in the stereo and heard the opening to "Best Years", I thought this was going to be leftovers from the Coverdale/Page project.......then I listened further, and...being a bigger fan of their bluesy output, like "Love Hunter" etc, I was stoked to hear the great original riffs exploding from Doug Aldrich's guitar! This guy is bringing back the big catchy guitar sounds that make blues rock great! I really cannot say enough about his playing on this album!
DC's vocals are great as well, as he is obviously older, yet has transitioned into singing his signature sound in a slightly lower key, and losing NONE of the excitment he brings to these tunes! Great musicianship all around! I am a bit curious as to whether or not Reb Beach actually played any part in creating these tunes, they are very much "not his style", having a decidedly tough blues attitude to them as opposed to his poppier "tap-happy" sound.
Great album, buy it! No matter what! It is classic! Not a boring rehash of old habits...(like the new Dokken album, that sounds like a soundtrack for depression. Not a return to form.). This cd will truly stand the test of time, and I hope they play alot of this album in concert. Don't know what they did to recapture the energy and come up with such catchy solid stuff, but WOW, they did it!
Best tunes.......they are all great, but my personal faves are:
"Good To Be Bad"- this title track is easily one of their greatest tunes ever.
"All I want All I Need"- the new Is This Love, yet stands on its own completely.
"Lay Down Your Love"- Classic Snake. you WILL sing along!
"Can You Hear The Wind Blow"- great rock song, stamped with the unmistakable Snake's bite!

Great album, one of the very best of the past 20 years.

Comment: As a big Whitesnake fan,I had high hopes and was so happy when this new album came out. However,I only liked 1 song only, which is "All I Want all I Need".I thought the rest weren't any good.I should have just got the 1 song from I tunes.

Summary: A Soldier of Fortune!
Comment: I really did not expect too much from this CD, but then I put this in my player and was aurally destroyed by the heavy production. The songs all sounded thick and well written. Coverdale can still sing like a maniac and Reb Beach does his best to fill in his predecessors. This CD kept growing and growing on me and I find myself singing songs from it all throughout the day. I can not believe I actually read a review on here that accuses "Best Years" to be a blatant rip off of "Whipping Post" by Alman Bros? This person must be on something as the chord progressions are different and so is the timing. Sounds nothing like it unless you REALLY want it to. Anyway, this CD rocks so get it and you wont be disappointed.

Rock On!

Summary: Whitesnake's Come Back Worth Your Money!
Comment: Most old bands from the 80's and beyond eventually end up missing the time in their life when they were rock stars. So they get back together and slop together some crappy tracks and capitilize on you buying it with the hopes that it would sound ANYTHING like their old stuff...which it doesn't. However, this is NOT one of those cases. Whitesnake (now made up of David Coverdale and 4 other all-star guns for hire) have come out with a stellar attempt to appeal to the current rock scene WITHOUT sacrificing their signature style and sound. In fact, as one other reviewer mentioned, it sounds as though they listened to the entire Whitesnake catalog before making this album to make sure this album fit in just as nicely.

"Call On Me" is a the standout track in my opinion with its driving riff and epic chorus. "Lay Down Your Love" is another example of the classic Whitesnake guitars and wailing vocals of David Coverdale. "Good To Be Bad" "Best Years" "A Fool In Love" and "Can You Hear The Wind Blow" are also great rock anthems. "All I Want All I Need" will take you back to the power ballads of Whitesanke such as "Is This Love" and "The Deeper The Love". In fact this track even goes out of its way to be a little more 80s sounding in its delivery.

Lastly, for all of you who miss the shredding of Steve Vai off of the Slip of The Tongue album, the solos on this album are INCREDIBLE and are very much in the style of Vai and Adrian Vandenberg from the classic line-up. The solos on "Best Years" "Call on Me" and "A Fool In Love" actually impressed me so much that I was wondering why Doug Aldrich hasn't been more recognized. His shredding is nothing less than spectacular. In conclusion, if you buy this album as an old Whitesnake fan or a new one, you won't be disappointed.
