Customer Rating: Summary: Good but could be great... Comment: I like the information this device provides me. It will definitely help me to evaluate some of my older electrical items to determine if it's worthwhile upgrading to more energy efficient models (and get nice new features as a bonus).
Pros: It provides all the data as advertised. Yeah, you could calculate your own daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly numbers, but it's quite nice that this model does that for you.
Cons: It needs to allow you to review the results even when it's not plugged into an outlet so you can use it in tight spaces then unplug it and just look at the results. Needs a backlight on the display.
Overall: It does what it says it will do and it's relatively easy to use.
Note: The first unit I received would not display the decimal point on the "cost" displays so it was impossible to interpret the results. Amazon replaced it quickly, without hassle, and without shipping charges. P3 also said they would replace it if Amazon did not. The new unit works perfectly.
Customer Rating: Summary: P4460 Kill-A-Watt Monitor Comment: If you are interested in determining the efficiency of any plug-in 110v device operating below 15 amps, I highly recommend this monitor. One can get an immediate readout of volts, amps, VA, power factor, and watts being consumed. To get a reading over time with devices that use standby power when not in use (e.g., devices with remote controls) or devices with thermostats that turn on intermittently (e.g., refrigerators) one can leave the monitor plugged in for a day or more to get a reading of total KWH consumed and the total time, so that KWH consumption per month, year, etc. can be calculated. By entering your cost per KWH the monitor will give a direct reading in cost for the time plugged-in or per day, week, month, year. The monitor may be unplugged and plugged in elsewhere for a more convenient reading, since the data are retained in memory. Pressing the reset button starts over. It is helpful to plug the monitor into a power strip with a 4 to 6 ft cord for taking readings from places where plugging the monitor directly into the wall outlet is not convenient.
Customer Rating: Summary: Kill a Watt Comment: The product is very easy to use and understand. Once set up you can start to figure what appliances are costing you money and what the pay back is on new purchases.
Customer Rating: Summary: Does the job Comment: I was a bit disappointed after I received the item. Don't get me wrong it works as expected but I was thinking I could really find out ways to save some money by identifying electrical vampires. All of the electronics I tested used so little electricity when not on it seems kind of silly to be concerned. For example a 27" HDTV with a DVD player on the same circuit uses $4.53 a year when not being used. For some reason I thought it would cost more than it does.
But it is interesting to find out how much appliances cost to use if you ran them 24/7 for 365 days. The TV and DVD player runs around $98 a year.
My Wish list: I wish it had a back light; I'm 50 and can't see so well. I also wish it had a tilted screen; it's a pain to work with it while it's in the wall socket and catching the right angle to see.
Overall, it's a fine product.
Customer Rating: Summary: Watt monitor Comment: This is a good product and does exactly what it says it will do. Great way to monitor electric usage. Well worth the money. I highly recommend this product.
