Editorial Reviews:

From the director of Wolf Creek comes this terrifying look at nature's perfect killing machine. When a group of tourists stumble into the remote Australian river territory of an enormous crocodile, the deadly creature capsizes their boat - trapping them on a tiny mud island with the tide quickly rising and darkness descending. As the hungry predator closes in for the kill, they must fight for survival against all odds. Starring Michael Vartan (Alias) and Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill), Rogue delivers brutal action and breathless suspense as it speeds towards one of the most intense final showdowns ever filmed.

Summary: Kinda Crappy Croc Movie
Comment: I thought this was kind of crappy and I am a "monster movie" fan. The story was basic and those who should get eaten by the giant croc, do. Lake Placid was a better GIANT CROC movie.

Another note: I am a fan of these Dimension Extreme films. If you watched this one and thought it was bad, don't be turned off by the "series" there are some good ones!

Summary: What a croc...
Comment: I am a big fan of giant creature movies. This is one of the best.Dont get me wrong,I loved "Lake Placid","Jaws","Anaconda"and the like, but they tended to give the creatures greater than human, almost devious personalities.Unless it was a part of the story, like "Deep Blue Sea" and the genetic mutant sharks,it may be enjoyable but ultimately not believable. A group on an Australian river tour accidently invades the territory of a huge crocodile, become trapped on a small island that will be gone when high tide comes in,and must escape and fight for survival. The actors are believable, the crocodile is believable as a predator acting on instincts instead of some super-intelligence.

I've watched 4 of the dimension extreme films(The company that gave us this movie)and I've enjoyed 2 of them(Rogue and DOA)and kind of hated 2 of them (Diary of the Dead and Storm Warning).

Anyway, try this film if you like monster/giant creature movies. You won't be sorry.

Summary: Surprisingly Good!
Comment: Well worth renting or even owning. If you're into killer creature flicks this one ranks among the best I've seen. Far better than Primeval and more realistic than Lake Placid the movie offers a good story with fine acting and a beautiful and forbidding setting. The fact that the movie is so realistic helps boost the suspense, so much for giant digital crocs this one actually felt made of flesh and blood. It's a pity this movie didn't get more publicity it was good enough in my opinion for widespread theatrical release, especially when one considers some of the absolute garbage that has hit the theaters this year alone.

Summary: Don't swim in these waters, unless you have a submarine with teeth
Comment: Since I liked the director's previous Australian horror, Wolf Creek, I figured that this should be watchable as well but basically I'm just a huge sucker for creature features! Anything monstrous that eats annoying characters is cool in my book and I'm always on a look out for horror movies with giant crocs or werewolves or anything mean with a bite.

The main reason why I enjoyed the movie was the care that was given to it in the beginning, other than a poor native cow loosing its life in the first shots the set up for the story was done perfectly. As the film began, the music and breathtaking scenery were stealing the show and for a few moments I forgot I was watching a horror movie and got lost in the beauty of Australia. I must add that the soundtrack was really good; it's definitely going on my list of soundtracks to buy as I love to collect the good ones and anyone who appreciates good film music would enjoy it thoroughly. The list of characters is short, dozen or so people going on a river tour under the watchful eyes of Kate (the awesome Radha Mitchell from Silent Hill) and her trusty dog. After running into some crazy locals one of the tourists notices a flare going off, in a secluded religious section on top of rocky cliffs that has shunned people for ages. Trying to be the good Samaritan, Kate decides to check out the signal and that's when the crazy stuff starts. I could just tell that once they turned down the dark path there was no going back!

Something happens, people get stranded and suddenly they are not alone. Very quietly they are being snacked on by an immensely large crocodile. This is not your average crock, but a leviathan of the swamps and rivers from the deepest horrors one can dream up and not only hungry but mean as hell! His jaws speed and stealth along with the amazing ability to stay quiet and not scare his food supply was enough to make me jump for joy, and at the same time I was worried about those unfortunate people. I wasn't looking forward to any of them getting eaten; well maybe two that we meet in beginning but they get some brownie points back later so they were on my good guys list anyway. I guess Rogue is the perfect pet name for this angry croc, he's certainly after more than just a meal here.

The characterization was really good even if short, the close bonds the tourists had with each other were on perfect display and it made me cringe whenever something would happen to any of them. This proved to be a fun film for a rainy day, but really any day is perfect for good horror. I felt that the special effects were really good, nothing fake and puppet like, although I wish the crock would make more appearances, guess he was camera shy, but he did stick around for a good ending.

Summary: Finally, an us against it kind of film with real bite!
Comment: "Rogue" is top-notch entertainment in a genre that has suffered quite a bit with lukewarm entries lately.

Amazon has done another excellent job giving us the basics of this story and who the big stars are, so I keep my summary very brief. A small handful of sightseers have their boat nearly destroyed by a rogue croc and they take refuge on a small island that will quickly disappear under the rising tide in a river basin area in Australia. It really is that simple of a story, but superbly executed by the cast of familiar faces, especially the lovely and talented Radha Mitchell from Silent Hill, the director who is famous for Wolf Creek, terrific photography, and outstanding special effects that are used sparingly but effectively.

This is one intense thriller. The last "us against it" thriller that I enjoyed this much was Prey. In regards to croc films, this isn't quite as good as Lake Placid, but it is far superior to the more recent Primeval. The film isn't, however, especially graphic for it's genre. More seems to happen off camera, but that doesn't reduce the intensity one bit. Rent or buy this one, personally, I think it's a keeper as it has repeat value.
