The key is to position the laptop on the stand with about an inch of the grippy pad on the top sticking out, so the weight is distributed onto the back of the stand more evenly. I definitely like the way the stand looks, but it is a bit pricey considering how simple a piece of "equipment" it is. Ask yourself if you wouldn't rather just stack up some books? Initially I was just looking to elevate my computer to create more table space. After using this, I have found many benefits from having this stand. 1) Elevates the laptop and creates a little more space on your table if you needed to do some writing. 2) Keeps the laptop cooler since it allows airflow on the bottom of the computer 3) I've found that my sitting posture has changed drastically, and my back doesn't hurt after sitting at my table for a long period of time. 4) Allows me to type from an external keyboard that sits nicely under the stand when not in use. The stand is small and can be easily put away. My 15' laptop sits pretty nicely on it. I was worried in the beginning after reading some reviews about the computer sliding down the rubber, but it has been pretty secure so far.
