Cons......You can certainly see by day two or three you will be exceding the recommended dosage. ...Why is there a recomended dosage?....Cause this stuff can hurt you.
If you use this stuff for a few days and your cold has not subsided you will continue to use it and soon you will become an AFRIN junkie. (NO JOKE)
Afrin shrinks the nasal membrains allowing more air passage through your nose (GOOD)... However when you stop using it, your body wants to heal the shrunken membraines by adding blood to the now injured membraine. The membraine swells so much that you will not be able to breath through your nose, both nostrils will be completly closed !...(Not so good)
How do you get your nostrils open again?.....you guessed it. more AFRIN.
I had to quit cold turkey. Its very difficult and dangerous and should be done under supervision. There is danger of halucinating, panic disorders and attacks and giant mode swings that can border on suicidal. I know It happened to me.,,,,,,,,Now you have been warned! Don't Do it. Day 1:
*wakes up in the morning*
Uh oh, I woke up with a scratchy throat, watery eyes, a runny nose, and definite congestion iN the upper respiratory system. Boy, now that I think about it, I have been lucky, and have not had a cold in over a year. What did I use last time? That's right, it was Afrin nasal spray! I think it did a good job, from what I remember. Ah, here it is! In the back of my medicine cabinet. What luck! It hasn't expired!

*an hour passes*
Hey! I'm already clearing up!
*goes to work, as scheduled*
*day progresses well, until about 3:00 P.M.*
My nose is clogging up again, it has only been seven hours, and I can't use the Afrin again until about 8:00 P.M.!

Now I remember! This stuff works great on the first day, works okay on the second day, and starts backfiring on the third day. What was that quote about the effects of drinking sake (Japanese rice wine, I think it is spelled that way)? Oh yeah! The man drinks the first bottle, the second bottle drinks the first bottle, and the third bottle drinks the man. I have to remember to only use this stuff for two days!

TWO DAYS ONLY!! Customer Rating: Summary: Caution !!! Comment: Afrin nasal spray really does do the trick of relieving nasal congestion. If you're having difficulty clearing your nose because of allergies, hay fever or a bad cold, this product will clear your nose in no time.
Afrin is best used as a spray. Spray twice in each nostril for the maximum effect. It does not make you drowsy.
However, there is a plethora of precautions about this drug. As Amazon notes, "do not take this product unless directed by a doctor if you have a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, or if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, glaucoma or difficulty urinating due to enlargement of the prostate gland." Pregnant moms and nursing moms should also consult a doctor before using Afrin.
If that wasn't enough to make you think twice about this product, then maybe my personal story will make you think. There's a very dirty little secret about Afrin--it can easily become an addictive substance. If used too frequently, your nasal passages gradually become more and more clogged simply because they haven't received enough Afrin to keep them clear. Obviously, you can--and I did--wind up in a nasty habit of buying the product just to keep your nose clear. I have heard stories from doctors stating that they have been approached by patients claiming to have been addicted to Afrin for ten years at a time. You may then need another prescription nasal spray to get your nose functioning properly again.
Naturally, with the precautions Afrin tells everyone about--and the horror stories that they don't openly address--I cannot give this product a positive review. I vividly remember seeing doctors cringe noticeably when I told them about my former Afrin addiction.
2 stars for this product--but only if you use Afrin for less than three days.
I would strongly encourage you to seek another nasal spray.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works Great Comment: This stuff does what it's supposed to do. The ad says it works in seconds...well maybe minutes would be a better discription on how long it takes to work. The ad also states this is in a 1oz. "PUMP" bottle...not true...it's a squeeze bottle.
