It has a great serrated edge that cuts through the bread neatly without tearing it. The blade is nice and long, and goes through my largest bread-machine loaves without a problem. And I really like the walnut handle. I've had my knife for about 20 years and it's still going strong. Do NOT put this in the dishwasher and make sure you use a wooden or plastic cutting board beneath your bread so your knife will last at least as long as mine. Some reviews have complained about how easy it is to cut yourself. This is a KNIFE. BE CAREFUL WITH KNIVES. That said, it is extremely easy to slice bread as thin as you want it. I have a Toastmaster toaster from the late 1940's that insists on thin sliced bread. (A wedding present to my parents) This knife works great for slicing homemade bread to make wonderful toast. It works with freshly made bread, hot from the oven and just as well with bread softened from being stored in a plastic bag for 3 days. This a wonderful knife for the price.
