The body can convert ALA into EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), an omega-3 oil found in fish oils. However, because the conversion from ALA to EPA is quite limited, some of the effects of fish oil (such as controlling triglycerides) do not occur when people supplement with flaxseed oil. The best utilization of flaxseed oil is a source of essential fatty acids.
