Extremely popular in Mexico and South America, Cactus Pears come from several varieties of cactus and are actually berries. Also called Prickly Pears, Indian Figs, or Tunas, the Cactus Pears were sacred to the Aztecs for centuries, and considered a delicacy by native Americans. The delicious flesh contains tiny edible seeds, and boasts an intense aroma of watermelon and berries. Cactus Pears are served cold, peeled and sectioned in fruit salads or can be sprinkled with brown sugar, lime juice and topped with whipped cream to create a unique dessert.
