Roman history comes alive in this magnificent 13-part series. "I, Claudius" (1976, 668 min.) ranks among the most acclaimed productions in BBC history. Tracing the lives of the last of the Roman emperors, it's an epic of ruthless ambition, shocking debauchery and murderous intrigue set in one of history's most fascinating eras. Bearing witness to the saga is Claudius, whose stutter and limp have marked him a fool--yet whom prophesies have foretold will one day rule Rome. This collector's edition set includes a unique documentary feature, "The Epic That Never Was" (1965, 71 min.), a remarkable behind-the-scenes look at Alexander Korda's ill-fated 1937 screen adaptation of "I, Claudius." Starring Merle Oberon and Charles Laughton, the chronicle of this uncompleted masterpieces is an unforgettable coda to one of the greatest stories ever told.

Customer Rating: Summary: Cut and censured Comment: This "new remastered" version is really a "new cut and censured" version. As an example: the dance in the first episode is 85 seconds long in 3 two-sided DVDs of Image-entertainment of 2000. Now the same dance is only 30 seconds long in this 2009, 4 DVDs remastered version of Image-entertainment.
Customer Rating: Summary: New 'Remastered' Set is ZERO Audio or Video Enhancement Comment: I so enjoyed the previous 'I, Claudius' boxed set that I bought the new 'remastered' set on its release to benefit from its presumed video and audio enhancements. Comparing the old and the 'remastered' discs there is literally NO difference of any kind to my eyes through high quality equipment. Furthmore it appears the new set has been edited down to fit on four DVDs from five DVDs and therefore omits some film.
Therefore enjoy this excellent production by investing in the first first set and just ignore this 'remastered' set.
Customer Rating: Summary: All episodes are there Comment: All has been said, for better or for worse, so just one detail for the wondering customer.
All the episodes are there. Episode 2 is NOT missing, it's just "merged" with episode 1 in a longer episode. Hence, a total of 12 rather than 13 episodes.
Customer Rating: Summary: Episode 2 is Missing!!! Comment: The biggest problem with this DVD set is that episode 2 entitled "Family Affairs" of the original 13 episode series is missing, not to mention cuts in the remaining 12 episodes. These defects make it totally unacceptable.
Customer Rating: Summary: Remastered? Comment: Even though I love the mini-series,I, Claudius, I was extremely disappointed with the video quality. I expected alot better when it said remastered.
