I was a little worried when I tested it myself before giving it to her. In a quiet room it seemed too loud and there was no way to control the volume. But on Christmas morning, with 5 of us in the room, the volume seemed fine. She knew right off the bat what to do with it. Some of the tunes even had her dancing. I think as she gets a bit older, she will figure out that each button makes a different sound. Unlike some of the reviews I've read, my daughter-in-law, who has a degree in Music Therapy was not turned off by the quality of the sound.
