Which came first? The can or the can opener? Could the can have existed without a can opener? When it comes to opening cans, you need a can opener. Here's a manual can opener that works easily and does it with style. The GOOD GRIPS Snap-Lock Can Opener is as functional as it is sculptural. Squeeze the Can Opener closed and hear the lock snap shut to hold the can securely while you turn the knob. There's no need to grip tightly to keep the Can Opener in place on the rim. Press the lock open with your thumb and it springs open to release the can. The curved handles of reinforced plastic are broad and rounded to distribute the pressure evenly across your hand as you squeeze. The oversized knob makes turning comfortable and easy.

Customer Rating: Summary: Except for the locking mechanism, it's good Comment: This has been my primary can opener for approximately 12 years. While I've been intending to replace it for most of that time, it has held up OK.
Unfortunately, the locking mechanism left much to be desired. When locked, there was not enough pressure to actually cut cans without squeezing the handle anyway. The locking mechanism (which is just a flimsy piece of plastic) broke off after a few months. It wasn't really needed, but I would have preferred that it work.
In terms of cutting cans, the particular one that I had would cut reliably and well if you had to know exactly how to hold it. You have to have the angle right, the squeeze pressure right, and be going at the right speed. I've personally not had problems cutting, but all of my roommates through the years have commented that they had problems with it.
Overall it wasn't a bad can opener, but it wasn't perfect. Now that it has finally thoroughly gunked up in the way that can openers do, I will probably replace it with something different. It was good enough to keep it until the end, but it wasn't good enough to re-buy.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best ever! Comment: Okay, so it might sound a little crazy to sound so excited over something so simple as a can opener, but, in my 10 years of marriage, I have never come across one that works nearly as well. I would recommend this product to everyone!
Customer Rating: Summary: More difficult than it's worth Comment: This can opener doesn't work that well. It's difficult to get it to lock on properly and gets dislodged during cutting easily also. Buy something else.
Customer Rating: Summary: just "okay" Comment: My first Oxo can opener was great until, after about 3 years, part of the handle broke (the part that you turn to open the can). I got more than my money's worth out of it, so I bought another one. It is not as good as the older one was. The newer model pops off as I am opening the can, and I have to constantly reset the blade. It also does not open the can completely, leaving that tiny bit at the end that has to be twisted off -- not a big deal for some, but the original opener removed the entire lid, end to end. On the upside, it is comfortable to use.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nearly-perfect can opener Comment: Locks down on the can so the handles don't have to be squeezed while the lid is being cut open. Excellent design, comfortable, easy to use. Don't confuse this model with a similar locking opener from OXO that is thinner, and does not work nearly as well as this one. Another winner from OXO.
