This fun documentary called A Hot Dog Program looks at one of America’s favorite foods and shows some places around the country where you can get wonderful wieners. From Coney Island on the Fourth of July to Alaska at the start of the Iditarod sled dog race, we talk to some hot dog connoisseurs along the way. In Chicago, the dogs are dressed heavily; in Macon, Georgia, the wieners are bright red; and in Las Vegas, they’re huge. You can get a Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield, Connecticut, a deep fried "ripper" at Rutt’s Hut in Clifton, New Jersey, and a snappy slay dog at Frank’s in Columbia, South Carolina.

Customer Rating: Summary: Pass the mustard, please!!! Comment: I love these "documentaries" about American life. Intellectuals need not bother watching this program! It's fun, informative, and just the right length of time. My 3 sons watched the entire show without moving until the last 5 minutes or so. Their favorite part was about The Varsity in Atlanta. For several days the boys were chanting like the counter man at The Varsity, "Whaaddda ya have,Whaddda ya have?" If we ever go to Atlanta again, we will have to eat there!
The people featured in the stories are what makes this show so appealing. I was interested to find that some of the families had been selling hot dogs for several generations! There is a uniqueness to their businesses that you don't see in the fast food and chain store establishments.
We watched The Ice Cream Show the same evening and enjoyed it as well.
Customer Rating: Summary: Hot diggity! Comment: If you like Americana, kitsch, truly down to earth people and places, you'll enjoy "A Hot Dog Show." You'll want to immediately go out to your local hot dog vendor and scarf down your favorites. Our four year old daughter loved it, especially seeing the hot dogs shooting out of the machine!! A fun video.
Customer Rating: Summary: It's a Weiner! Comment: We just loved this video! We first saw it on late night television and then were thrilled to find it on Amazon.com. The movie focuses on an American tradition - the hot dog stand...in all of its forms...from the street vendor in Alaska to the Nathan's franchise on Coney Island and everything in between. Perhaps what we liked best was that the video not only concentrates on the stands/stores themselves, but on the people in the stores and the owners. Our favorite shop mentioned was the Varsity in Atlanta, GA, which, after watching the video, we made a pilgrimage to visit. We recommend this film for anyone who loves food (the good old fashioned American hot dog - it it's many forms). This video is great fun to watch and provides a comic view of the sould of America. Have fun!
