Editorial Reviews:

ALL-TIME CLASSIC. FOR SONY PLAYSTATION VIDEO GAME SYSTEM. SUPER FUN. GREAT FOR COLLECTORS. HERE IS SOME INFO ON THE GAME. The third in the Alpha series has a total of 31 fighters, the most in the series so far. New characters include old favorites E. Honda, Blanka, Vega, Cammy, T. Hawk, Dee Jay, Juni and Juli. Some of the newest fighters on the block include a former Final Fight character (Cody, who has been in jail since the last Final Fight game, or so his clothing suggests), Karin Kanzuki and Rainbow Mika. The major difference between this Alpha and the last two are the new play modes World Tour, Arcade, VS, Training and Entry. World Tour - Simply choose your fighter and travel around the world, fighting the home town heroes that you run into. The more fights you win, the stronger you fighter becomes. You can also learn new moves, and there are three levels of Super moves to choose from before you start each round (called Isms). Arcade - A simple conversion of the arcade version. Beat each fighter with your chosen warrior, in three rounds per match (much the same as past versions of Street Fighter) Versus - Two human players battle it out. Training - A good way to learn all the super moves that are available, against a dummy. Entry - If you save your character during the World Tour mode, you can upload him here to use in the other modes in the game (especially handy for Training). Finally, if you complete certain areas of the game three new fighters become available, including another old favourite in Guile, Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma.

Summary: The Best Street Fighter Available
Comment: If you are a Street Fighter die hard fan, then this game must be in your collection. As a SFII fan myself, I rate this the best compared to even the Playstation 2 versions. It is simply the most playable and the most fun incarnation of the game. Do yourself a favor and get this one. You won't regret it.

Summary: Hey I played it so much my fingers ache...
Comment: ...and I remember when Street Fighter II appeared in Arcades some...uh...was it 15-16 years ago or more? , with cast of INCREDIBLE 8 characters and INCREDIBLE 6 attack buttons. My cousin had to master ALL 8 fighters and asked me 'Which end would u like to see?'

Alpha series brought modernisation AND super-attack option, which you can use when your super meter is up.

Alpha 3 is the best sequel, and don't download ROM for arcade, since PS version has several fighters more than arcade version.

I know this is age of Tekken 5 and Virtua fighter Evolution, but if you can run PS games, BUY SFA 3!

Comment: Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Circa 1999

GOOD:
- Good Balanced 2D fighter, considered a classic to many hardcore 2D fighting fans
- Lots of modes to unlock and lots of fighters to choose from

BAD:
- Loading times, very short but still there
- Graphics might be dated for some people

WILL IT FIT YOUR TASTE:
- Not over the top like Guilty Gear X/X2, Marvel Vs Capcom, or Capcom Vs SNK
- Old School type game play and not combo heavy

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- King of fighters 2000 and up
- Fatal Fury: Mark of Wolves

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Last game in the Street Fighter "Alpha" franchise (as of 1999)
- Has all fighters from Street Fighters Alpha 1 and 2 as well as a few from the old time Street Fighter's like Street Fighter II: The world Tour
- Street Fighter Alpha is called Street Fighter Zero in Japan
- Practicality same game on Sega Dreamcast

Summary: Capcom Did It Again!
Comment: Building on the success of the previous two Alpha games and the hype about the Street Fighter 3 Series, Capcom releases this absolutely FLAWLESS game. Every character from the first two Alpha games PLUS every character who was in SF2 is here. In addition, there are even MORE new characters! There is Cody (what is it with Capcom importing Final Fight characters into SF?), EVIL Ryu (has all of Ryu's moves PLUS the "Shungokusatsu" lvl. 3 super), Karin (the Ken to Sakura's Ryu), Juni (Cammy #2), Juli (Cammy #3), and R. Mika (a female wrestler. Any relation to Zangief, I wonder?). All in all, there are 25+ characters in this game.

The best new feature of SFA3 is the different -isms. There are three of them (X-ism, A-ism, and V-ism). The X-ism has only one super combo (a lá SSF2 Turbo) and that SC can be used once the gauge is full. (Note: The characters who were in SSF2T use those specific supers in this -ism.) The A-ism is just like the previous Alpha games: 3-level super meter, multiple supers. The V-ism is the most interesting of the three. SC's are disabled, but in their place the Custom Combo comes in. Now you can actually MOVE while performing a CC, which makes it so much better.

There are so many different modes of play, some of which are locked. But once you do unlock them, they are fun to play. My favorite mode is World Tour Mode. In World Tour, you go to different locations a lá Soul Blade and fight who is there. As you progress, you gain experience and you also gain "items" which you can have your character utilize to make them a stronger foe. What's the point of this, you ask? Well, you can enter that character into the game's "database" and the character will become playable with the attributes that you assign it.

Another MAJOR plus is that all of the background music is BRAND NEW. I mean, I liked the SF2 background stuff, but it got kind of unoriginal after hearing 5 different versions of it. The stages are very well designed. I do like how some of the stages still look somewhat like a previous incarnation of SF stages (look at Sagat's stage to realize what I mean).

Something very clever that Capcom did was to make half of the features (and some of the characters) hidden. This only adds to the interest level in the game because you want to see what else is hidden. This is a must-have for anyone who owns a PlayStation and I guarantee you will want to play this over and over again. Good job, Capcom!

Summary: The Alpha 3 Review
Comment: Anyone who doesn't like this game has to be sick in the head. I've been playing Street Fighter games since I was 8. This one is probably the best one of them all. The roster is huge (which I happen to like) and the ability to choose 3 different fighting styles puts a lot of depth in the gameplay. If only XMEN vs Street Fighter was made this well.
