Summary: Ravishing in all ways
Comment: The adjective "ravishing" describes both the compositions and the performances. Both works are rather obscure but quite important in the reportorie of late Romantic music. Especially coming off well is the Villa-Lobos with its subtle flowing, quixotic, tango-like rhythms (some parts mimic the slow but accented middle esections of that genre) and beautiful melodies. The Ravel is showier and shows the influences of its first incarnation (a Concerto). The work fairly screams for an orchestra and the sound produced by this fabulous trio is stunning.

Summary: Fewer Stars -- Not Because It's Not Good...
Comment: ...but rather because I didn't get what I was hoping. I bought this CD off the merchendise table after the Ahn Trio visited my small Nebraska town. I was impressed, and was hoping to find something with one of the Piazzolla tangos they'd done, or something else more like their concert material. This is definitely a good CD, but if you get the opportunity, catch them live in concert. It'll be worth the extra money.

Summary: Ravel never sounded better and the Villa Lobos will surprise
Comment: This is a fantastic CD with the definitive recording of the Ravel. The Villa-Lobos is wonderfully romantic and this is the trio to deliver it to ears, new and old.Keith Boyd of Berea, OH is right on the money when he says good as they are on a CD, they are unforgettable in personal performance. Just wait until you hear their new EMI CD this winter.

Comment: THIS CD IS A GREAT WAY TO GET TO KNOW THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE JUST SIMPLY "BREATH-TAKING." THIS AMAZEMENT NOT ONLY OCCUR ON CD, BUT ALSO IN REAL LIFE.
