Summary: Wow wow wow definitely my favorite Metallica album
Comment: So raw, so fast, so intense, so non professional, so great. This isn't a band bent on playing sold out stadiums, this is a band that wants to ROCK! I don't think they would've cared at all back then how much someone wanted to listen to their music, no Napster suits back then no way. My favorite song is definitely "Anesthesia", that Bass solo...wow. I don't care if the later albums are more "varied" or blah blah blah whatever, this is THRASH! Bang your head and mosh to this! Nice, this is Metallica as a punk metal band, and I love it.

Summary: not the original release of this
Comment: This version of the album is not the original release. The original release included "Am I Evil?" & "Blitzkrieg", which for some reason are no longer included on this newer re-release. So I have a question for the remaining original members of Metallica...why are they no longer on the album?
To my knowledge the only way to get a copy of those now is to spend over $100 on the box set. Gosh, thanks guys...haven't sold out huh?

Summary: I betcha Metallica'll never sound like this ever again-****1/2
Comment: This landmark 1983 debut album from Metallica captures the band at a time when they were just 4 young men bouncing from venue to venue playing raw speed/thrash metal hoping for a break. When this album was released, Metal was beginning to enter into the hair metal craze that dominated much of the 80's. While this album's intensity could now be disputed, With extreme metal styles like black metal and death metal now being the norm on the underground, This album is still very enjoyable to listen to to this day. If you've never heard this album, Be warned: You're in for a very different experience. Unlike all of the albums that would follow, The production on here is noticably shoddy therefore the album sounds low budget. Also, Hetfield's vocals on here are not melodic like on the other albums [Being that he kinda screams and sings on the songs] and the lyrics reflect youthful rebellion and angst and are nowhere near as mature as on the later albums. Another thing to point out is that the songs are a lot faster here and have absolutely no commercial intents behind them whatsoever. The band really jammed on this album and they created a potent album despite all the obstacles they were faced with on this album. The standout tracks are ''Jump in the fire'', ''Motorbreath'', ''Seek and destroy'', and ''No remorse''. If you like Metallica or old school 80's thrash/speed metal, You would do youself a favor by checking this album out. While they may not sound too mature on this album, You will get the feeling that something much bigger is coming from Metallica [Which inevitably did].

Summary: Hail True Metal.
Comment: This was back when Metallica was just a bunch of kids cranking out some of the best thrash metal you will ever hear. I don't think it was even called thrash metal back then, which is why Metallica reinvented metal.
You can still hear the raw chords and anger the band had in them on this recording. Almost like a band of warriors sent back to rescue metal. Metallica became etched in the heart of true metal with attitude and the licks to back it up.
Say what you want about the whole Mustaine deal, but Kirk shows what a killer guitarist he is right here on this first album. His riffs are heavy and precise, they corrode like acid and lull your metal mind off to another land.
James Hetfield's voice was young but still had a serious edge to it: it sounded like metal with serious attitude thrown in. It was perfect.
Lars had a long way to go with his drumming, but even on here you can hear how he just fit in with the other three musicians.
And you get a stellar performance from Cliff Burton, who was a master-metal- bass-player if there ever was one. His talent is way out front on this recording; you could tell he wasn't just another bass player in a metal band.
Kill `Em All is a metal classic and deserves to be on the shelf of every metal fan in the world.

Summary: Still good, but needs a re-mix.
Comment: Okay, couple things I need to get out of the way since this is a review of the vinyl version of this album. First, to enjoy this vinyl record fully, you NEED good equipment to play it on. I'm talking at or near audiophile-level hi-fi equipment, with the turntable being nothing less in build quality than something like a Technics SL-1200.
That being said, it would have been real good if Metallica had re-mixed and re-mastered this album for re-issue on vinyl. The big problem I have with it is that James Hetfield's lyrics are a little too buried in the mix on most of the songs. One thing I will say too is be prepared to really turn up the volume to hear things really good. This album really pushes the LP vinyl format to its limit, with 27 minutes of music on side one and 26 minutes on side two. Because of the long playing times, the basic playing volume is reduced to make all the music fit.
Despite the flaws, because this is a vinyl release, it will be a good collectible album and when played on fine turntables will give lots of listening enjoyment. Just be sure to get Metallica's next three after this one though, 'Ride the Lightning', 'Master of Puppets', and '...And Justice For All' on vinyl too.
