View all articles by Dr David B. LINGIAHHundreds of academics from around the globe attended a key forum on higher education, research and knowledge development at the UNESCO Headquarters (Paris) for three days (29th Nov to 1st Dec.2006). From
return false">Mauritius were Prof Goolam Mohamedbhai, President of the International Association of Universities, who chaired a special session, Dr George Leung (London based) Dr David Lingiah, Honorary Council Doard member (Glasgow based).
Drs Leung and Lingiah were part of the twenty or so delegates as observers from Ansted International University (Malaysia) led by Prof. Dr Roger Haw recognised by UNESCO and invited by the UNESCO Director, Prof George Haddad. Many reports were distributed and many contacts were made for further linkages. It was a well organised event and phantastic learning experience for all present.
In the evening of the 3rd day Ansted University held its graduation ceremony for many alumni and graduates who came from many parts of the world including Athens, Nigeria, Canada, Slovenia and Germany. Prof Roger Haw delivered the opening address; Dr George Leung, master of ceremony was assisted by Dr S. Ratnam from Malaysia.
Dr David B.Lingiah was awarded a doctorate in science (DSc) Health psychology along with certificates of attendance and appreciation from Prof. Haw the youngest co-founder of Ansted University. Prof. Roger Haw intimated that next April/May a forum and graduation ceremony will be held in Mauritius for students from Mauritius and elsewhere. Ansted Special delegates will be Drs Lingiah and Leung who incidentally has served three times as graduation master of ceremony, will receive a surprise award from Ansted University. Both compatriots are looking forward to this event on the island. (Report)
